WOOD BROTHERS RACING -AN ENDURING LEGACY OF SUCCESS
What started out humbly as a group of brothers tinkering on a $50 race car under a beech tree on their
family property in Buffalo Ridge, Virginia, has become an iconic team that has seen monumental success
on the track and played an integral part in the growth of NASCAR® for the past 75 years.
Wood Brothers Racing, founded in 1950 by brothers Glen, Leonard, Delano, Clay, and Ray Lee, may
have had meager beginnings in the rolling Virginia hills, but it did not take long before the brothers started a
winning tradition. The Woods began their foray into stock car racing with a car numbered 50, aptly after the amount of money spent to buy that first car. Wins at historic facilities such as Bowman Gray Stadium and Martinsville Speedway soon followed. With success came growth, as the Wood Brothers eventually adopted the No. 21 for their race cars, a number which has carried the team through the majority of its iconic tenure in NASCAR®
.
Over the years, the Wood Brothers Racing team was credited with 101 NASCAR® premier series victories, including that milestone 100th win in 2024. In between, legendary drivers including Glen Wood, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, A.J. Foyt, Buddy Baker, and Dale Jarrett all brought Wood Brothers Fords to NASCAR® Victory Lane.
The Wood Brothers No. 21 car has earned five DAYTONA 500® victories and scored 120 NASCAR Cup Series®
pole awards. Beyond on-track success, the Wood Brothers organization revolutionized the industry with their speedy pit stops that did not just change the game in NASCAR® , but also helped win an Indianapolis 500 in 1965.
Now, as Wood Brothers Racing celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025, Lionel Racing – the Official Die-cast of NASCAR®
– is excited to honor the team’s rich history of accomplishments with a special eight-pack of 1:64-scale die-cast.
From the 1950s through its diamond anniversary season, each era of the Wood Brothers’ success story is brought to life with each die-cast in this remarkable assortment.
From Glen Wood’s famed “Backseater” Modified that started it all in the 1960s through Harrison Burton’s 2024 Motorcraft Ford Mustang that earned the team its 100th win in 2024, the memories of Wood Brothers Racing’s NASCAR®
dominance is represented through this set of current-era Ford Mustang die-cast.
The 1970s are represented in die-cast form with a tribute to David Pearson’s 1972 car that won at Darlington Raceway. Kyle Petty’s 1987 Charlotte-winning car turns back the clock to the 1980s, while Dale Jarrett’s 1991 Michigan winner represents the team’s 1990s successes. Elliott Sadler’s 2001 Bristol-winning ride brings the Wood Brothers into the new millennium, while Ryan Blaney’s first NASCAR Cup Series®
win at Pocono in 2017 pays homage to the 2010s before turning the page to the 2020s with
Burton’s DAYTONA International Speedway® victory.
Completing this monumental set of die-cast is Josh Berry’s 2025 Motorcraft Ford that brought the Wood Brothers its 101st NASCAR Cup Series® victory.
Each die-cast will feature period-specific marks and logos on the latest edition Ford Mustang Dark Horse model and will feature the driver’s name above the windshield.
Hand-placed decals, a window net, and rolling Goodyear tires add to the realistic touches. Plus, this exclusive eight-car set comes in a Wood Brothers Racing 75th Anniversary collector box.
