"In 1988, Alan Kulwicki proved that a single car team could successfully take on the major players on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit. After buying the team from Bill Terry in 1987 and functioning as a driver/owner for the season, Kulwicki powered his new team to a 15th-place finish in the NASCAR championship points tally. The Effort was enough for Zerex Anti Freeze to sign on as a primary sponsor in 1988. The sponsorship reaped rewards when Kulwicki took the No 7 Thunderbird to Victory Lane, his first ever Winston Cup Series victory, in Phoenix on Nov 6, 1988."
