The opportunity gave Wallace his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start and also marked the first time since 2006 that an African American driver would race at the sport’s highest level. In qualifying, Wallace powered his No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion to an impressive 16th starting spot. On race day, he ended the Pocono 400 in 26th position, making history in the process.
