As Mother Nature continued to provide a deluge that caused numerous cars to run off track and into one another, Gragson wasn’t immune to trouble. Standing water and contact from other competitors caused Gragson’s No. 9 to make multiple trips into the outside barriers around the hybrid road-and-oval track in the race’s second and third stages. Undeterred, Gragson and the JR Motorsports team never gave up. Grit and determination led Gragson all the way back through the field, even with the car showing plenty of battle scars including a bent-up hood and crumpled nose. Gragson fought his way back into contention late in the race before finishing an impressive second.
