NASCAR® superstar Mark Martin added to his legend in the 1993 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway when he outlasted the competition and a three-hour rain delay to earn his fourth consecutive win of the season and first in one of the crown jewel Cup Series events. With the win, Martin tied a modern-era record with his fourth straight victory of the year with the Valvoline Ford. The race was delayed by rain to a late-afternoon green flag. After taking the lead from Dale Earnhardt, Martin sped away from the field to take the checkered flag as the race was called short at lap 367 due to darkness.
