During his legendary driving career, Petty amassed 15 wins at North Wilkesboro Speedway – a five-eighths mile track in the shadow of the Blue Ridge mountains. On April 5, 1981, Petty drove his No. 43 STP Buick to his final win at the now-historic venue. The race was the Northwestern 400, and it was the 194th win of his career. The win was hard fought. Petty and fellow NASCAR Hall of Fame® driver Bobby Allison battled for the lead, with Petty taking first place with just over 60 laps to go.
