In an unexpected turn of events, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 29, filling in for his friend and Nationwide Series teammate Trevor Bayne. Before the race, Bayne wrote Stenhouse’s name on tape and tacked it above his own on the No. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion.

Stenhouse started ninth, but he brushed the wall early on and dropped back in the running order, eventually falling off the lead lap. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and the crew of his No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion battled back from two additional brushes with the wall and being two laps down in the Coca-Cola 600 to score a solid 11th place finish in the youngster’s Sprint Cup debut.
